Arthritis affects over 40 million people in the United States alone. Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. More than 20 million people have this form of arthritis. In this form the cartilage covering the ends of the bones erodes away through many years of use or an injury. Bone scrapes against bone causing pain that limits the range of motion. This typically happens first in the hips, knees, hands and spine.
